This is s Confirmed ANC Mission Plan
Lt. Col. James J. Walton is to be laid to his final rest in the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) on 10 July 2008 following services at the Ft Myer Memorial Chapel at approximately 0845 hours.
PGR has been invited to attend, and will mount an Honor Flag Line at the Memorial Chapel, join the procession, and then offer Honors at graveside in ANC.
10 July Mission Plan:
Stage: 0730 hrs Iwo Jima Memorial (Marine Corps War Memorial)
Brief: 0740 hrs
Transit: 0745 hrs Iwo to ANC, "white line" route, then to Memorial Chapel
Flag Line: 0800 hrs Memorial Chapel
Honors: 0930 hrs Graveside - time approx.
Ride Captain: Dave "SilverBack" Slone 301-758-5608 cell
Iron Horses preferred, cages welcome, as always.
Large mounted flags preferred for transit from staging to services (furled before ANC procession)
Large hand-held flags preferred for the Honor Flag Line, but not used at graveside.
Military-mandated ID & gear required for this mission (Ft Myer Memorial Chapel).

DoD Identifies Army Casualties
The Department of Defense announced today the death of four soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died June 21 in Kandahar City, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.
Killed were:
Lt. Col. James J. Walton, 41, of Rockville, Md., who was assigned to a Military Transition Team, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
Spc. Anthony L. Mangano, 36, of Greenlawn, N.Y., who was assigned to 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry (Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition), New York Army National Guard, Geneva, N.Y. [/quote]

As I get ready to write to you, the words fall away as almost meaningless because of the pain I know you feel. I know, because I have felt that pain.
Know that you are NOT alone on this difficult path. Others are there to help you: reach out and embrace them, for they are offering not only themselves, but sharing with you that little bit of the Almighty that resides in all of us. This offering/sharing is what WILL give you the strength you will need to get thru. Trust me.
Any service related death, whether accident or illness, wounds received or KIA, warrant the Gold Star for the family. Don't let anyone tell you different.

My heart is truly broken for you.
I lost my only child, Marine Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter on April 22nd in Ramadi, Iraq to a VBIED so I understand the devestating nature of your tragic loss and for that I am so very, very sorry. It is impossible to ever get over the tremendous hole that has been torn in your heart but I can only hope that you will find comfort in the many wonderful memories that you have of James. It's vital that you allow your family, friends, and community to offer you the support that will need in the months ahead as you deal with his death. While I won't be physically standing a PGR flag line in his honor, rest assured that I am with you completely in spirit.....

LTC Walton was my team leader from Oct 07 (while at Ft. Riley) to April 08 when he transferred from the Kabul area to the Kandahar district.. his motive in doing so was to that he saw an opportunity to help the most Soldiers possible. He would be helping several ETTs (embedded transition teams) at once. Not only was he a great leader, but he was a great friend to me. His mentorship and advice helped me through a very tough time in my life. His sense of humor helped to lighten any situation. And, WOW... what a halo gamer... *smile* I'm going to miss you Sir.

| My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Walton and his family. I did not know LTC Walton personally but did have the opportunity to share some of his emails and his videos that he made with my brother, Capt. Edgington, who served with him in Afghan.
Thanks LTC. Walton for all that you sacrificed for our freedom. May you rest in peace.

Thank you, Lt. Col. James J. Walton, for your service to this Nation. It is because of patriots such as you that I, my family, and the rest of this great Nation are able to lead the lives we do. It is the soldier that gives us freedom, not the politicians. Only two people ever died for our freedoms. One was Jesus Christ and the other was the American Soldier. The least I can do is pay homage and respect to this Hero and his family.
To the family of this American Hero: We as a nation grieve with you in your loss. His adherence to “Duty to God and Country” will not be forgotten. Death is a time to rejoice in the life someone had and the lives they touched on this earth. Life is but a blink of an eye. May the Great Architect take this Hero and his family into his council, protect and heal them.
