John R Stampone, Jr, veteran of the US Coast Guard with service in the Viet Nam War, passed away on 12 May, 2008 at his residence in Sunset Beach, NC. 

John, formerly of Silver Spring, MD, is to be interred on the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) on 25 June 2008 from the Post Chapel on Ft Myer at approximately 1445 hours.

Quoting his wife, Kim, "It would be a great privilege to have the Patriot Guard for his service."

Kim, the privilege, and honor, to stand for this Hero of a past war is all ours. 
PGR will be there - standing tall, silent and proud for John, and his family, and his comrades in arms!
Mission planning is underway and the final plan will be posted here as the date nears.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of John R. Stampone in this very sad time in your lives. My prayers are that our GOD may bring peace and comfort to all of you during this tragic time. Please know that not just me , but a country full of people like me owe you a debt that can never be repaid. We know that your loved one is now serving in the Army of our LORD in heaven, and the LORD said if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and recieve you unto myself that where I am there you may be also. I thank you for the sacrifice you and your family have endured so our nation can remain the home of the free because of the brave. I was very touched that so many of you took time out to express your sympathy to my family and I following my husband's death. My husband was a true hero, not just during the Vietnam War, but during his long and fierce battle with cancer. He never gave up and he fought to the bitter end. I thank him and each of you who have fought bravely for our country. I am not a fan of war, but I will always be a fan of the men and women who serve to protect us and provide us with the freedoms we all share. Thank you all and God Bless.
