Ladies and Gentlemen,
We have been requested to honor James Freidel, USMC with a flag line and Mission Man escort on Thursday, May 15th. Mr. Freidel was one of the Chosin Few serving at the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean conflict.
Ride Captain is Dennis Reynolds
Staging time: 1000 (10am) both flag line and escort
Staging location: WNC lower parking lot (across from office) 11800 SE Mount Scott Blvd
We will send five riders over the Lincoln Memorial to escort Mr. Freidel to WNC. The rest of us will form the flag line.

| Marine: Thank you for your service. I remember well hearing about the "Chosin Few" in boot camp 41 years ago. You sacrificed a great deal, and we are grateful for your service. To the friends and family of this gentleman, my sincere condolences. It will be an honor to be Ride Captain for this legendary veteran of the "Frozen Chosin". |

We know that there are no words to soften the pain of your loss but I pray that your God will help you find peace and comfort you and guide you through dealing with your loss.
We will not forget the service and sacrifice of Mr. Freidel to protect our country and way of life. He is truly an American Hero.

Our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. James Freidel. We are sorry for your loss. May your loving memories of a long life, well-lived, bring you comfort and strength as you face the difficult days ahead. We share in your grief.
Mr. Freidel, thank you for your service to this great nation. All Americans should be proud of the men and women like you who willingly step up and put yourselves in harms way to protect our freedoms and way of life. We owe you a debt of gratitude that cannot be repaid. You stood for America in her time of need - now we proudly stand for you. It will be an honor to stand the flagline to honor your life and service. It did strike us that another Marine from the Chosin Reservoir will be buried in Washougal the same day - they must be calling you home. Rest easy as you take your place of honor alongside those who have gone before you. Your job is done.

| One of the first things boot Marines learn about is about the Chosin Few. To become Marine Corps legend is not an easy task. To stand for two of the heroes from this era on the same day is an honor which may never be repeated. Semper Fi, Marine, I salute you and the legend you helped to create. (I usually take care to be sure that my condolences are not "cookie cutter". In this case I will copy this post into the thread for the other Marine we will be saluting on Thursday because it seems fitting.) I pray that the family and friends of both of these Marines receive the attention of our Lord to ease their mourning period, and that He blesses them with understanding and happiness as they await the day they re-unite with their loved ones on the other side. Rest in peace James, you are legend. |

Consider this: Iwo Jima is generally thought to be the most ferocious battle ever engaged in by Americans - yet compare it to The battle of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War.
· Iwo lasted 36 days- Chosin was 15 days [
· Iwo had 6135 Americans Killed in action or 175 per day
· Chosin had 3115 Americans killed in action or 208 per day
· Iwo had 17841 Wounded or 510 per day
· Chosin had 14000 wounded or 933 per day
· Iwo contained 60,000 Marines
· Chosin had 20,000 Marines (17,000 Marines, 2,000 U.S. Army, and 1,000 British Royal Marines)
· Iwo had 22 Medals of Honor awarded or one for every 2727 men
· Chosin had 17 Medals of Honor awarded or one for every 1176 men
· Iwo Marines outnumbered the Japanese 3 to 1
· Chosin: Chinese outnumbered the Americans 10 to 1
· Iwo Marines killed 20,000 Japanese or 571 per day
· Chosin Americans killed 28,000 Chinese or 1867 per day.
The men of the Chosin fought their way over 73 miles of a treacherous, icy, one lane, mountainous road.
· They fought night and day, often without food or sleep, under constant attack while overcoming roadblocks, and fighting off ambush after ambush.
· They did it in 45 below zero temperatures, with bone chilling winds blowing out of Siberia at Fifty miles per hour - bringing the wind chill factor to 100 degrees below zero.
· They walked, ran and fought in snow up to their knees, often in Whiteout conditions.
