PHASE 2

NATIONAL GUARD
1175TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY

TUESDAY, MAY 13, 2008

***NOTE::

The time on this mission has been moved up.  It looks like the first leg from Tullahoma to Dickson will be about as planned.  KSU in Tullahoma at 0900 to arrive in Dickson at around 1100.  There will be a brief 20 minute fuel stop there and KSU at 1120.

We will be running at regular highway speeds.  Too fast to fly large flags, if you have small flags fly them.  We will have full THP support on this mission, and Brownsville LEO to pick us up there.

We will exit I-40 at exit 56.  The elementary school kids in Brownsville are expecting us at 1300, and will be out front to welcome home these heroes.   Then we will take the soldiers home after a long tour of duty and waiting stateside for well over a week.  Let's take them home is true PGR style!

Sorry for the last minute changes, but you know, we've always got to stay flexible.

Ride safe!

Be standing by at the areas to met up with FULL Tanks and empty Bladders!!  :-)

WELCOME HOME

PHASE 2

NATIONAL GUARD
1175TH TRANSPORTATION COMPANY

TUESDAY, MAY 13, 2008

2nd Phase of 1175 Welcome Home:

A large number of the 1175th that we welcomed home on Mother's Day to Tullahoma ins't quite home yet.  They are based out of Brownsville, TN.  The National Guard has requested another "PGR style" escort for them on Tuesday.

STAGING: will be at the National Guard in Tullahoma at 0830. KSU  0900

We will depart the National Guard base in Tullahoma Tuesday morning at 0900.  This is on Highway 55, on the Northeast side of Tullahoma, will have more exact address info tomorrow.  Then we will have a fuel stop in Dickson, TN around 1100 and then into Brownsville.

Any members that what to join the escort in Dickson, please to so.  We will stop at the Piliot Truck stop at exit 172.  Will probably be there approx 30 minutes for a fuel stop, leg stretch, and other necessary breaks.  We want to get a handoff here between Middle TN and West TN.  If some from Middle need to head back, Dickson would be a good place to do so.  And West TN members can join us in Dickson.  There may possibly be another stop for other West TN folks to join us.  Watch for further updates.

This is the base plan.
We will  update this as quickly as more details develop.
SportyPig will be making the entire trip from Tullahoma to Brownsville, if you have questions, email him at rchall@comcast.net He is one of the Ride Captain's, the other Ride Captain will be Mark Watrous, watrousmark@yahoo.com

Speeds will be that if you are flying flags on your bike, you will be able to fly them during the escort, we did on the Phase 1 part.  Come on out and let's get the remainder of these troops home, PGR Style!

Welcome home 1175th!!!! Job well done, Mission Accomplished.

This is going to be a great Welcome home. If you've never been on a welcome home ride, then you just don't know what you're missing. If you have been on one before, then I'm sure you're already planning on how you can make this one. They are AWESOME!

We have some PGR family members that are part of the group that is coming home. So, this is an excellent opportunity to not only support our troops, but also to support our PGR family. We have a 50% chance of rain, so pack the rain suit and lets ride!!

Directions:

I-24 to Sam Ridley Pkwy (exit 66). North on Sam Ridley Pkwy. Or Highway 41 (Murfreesboro Rd) to Sam Ridley Parkway, and then North. Fitzhugh Blvd is the second left North of Highway 41.

Ride safe.

My first time in such an event. all I can say is Wow! It was quite an honor to join the PGR in escorting our troups home. The rain stayed away, although it was awfully windy. I'll admit it, I got a little wet in they eyes. It was a beautiful sight. Thank you all!

I wish I'd had the memory stick in my camera. I got two good pics on the internal memory, with no good way to upload them.
This was the first Welcome Home I and mine have been on. I know I had to wipe tears a few times, and not just because of wind and grit on the ramp at the airport. The day went by way too quick. There was too much for my little brain to process.

Mission COMPLETE!!

Sportypig you are so right, I wish all our missions were like today, minus the 35 mph wind gusts! Between Smyrna Airport rolling out the Red Carpet treatment to us, to prepare for the planes to land, all the bikes on the tarmac! Plus all our large flags on the tarmac!

It was one awesome sight to behold! The Major and General said whatever we wanted they didn't care, they were overwhelmed are the numbers that came out on Mother's Day to bring home their unit. I don't think they have ever seen us in action like that before, they have witnessed the other side of our misison, but like us, they really loved seeing this side with us in smiles, cheering their men and women as the de-boarded the planes, words can't describe the sights!

The winds were not easy to ride in, but boy did they make those flags look good! They were all waving and standing straight out the whole time the planes were being emptied of soldiers!

I don't know if I will remember all the groups that were standing with us, So I will just say THANK YOU ALL!  For coming and standing with us and for THEM!

Our thanks to the Smyra Chief of Police, the Smyrna Police department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Coffee County Sheriff's Department, the Tullahoma Police Police for all you escort and blocking assistance to get us all safely from the Smyrna Airport to the final distination in Tullahoma, the families waiting for their Heroes!

I was also told my the Major we have (3) more units coming home in the near future, so keep your eyes open, we could very possibly have a replay of today three more times!

Great job PGR!!!!!

Sorry to be so late. Between doing some recon work for our TN Gathering of the Guard in the Fall, and my neglected Mother's Day obligations, I'm just getting to the computer.

Told ya, we were gonna welcome them in true PGR style, and we did. Couldn't have done it without all of the turn out, and of course the support from LEO, National Guard, and Airport Security that Dreamcatcher mentioned.

I want to add a Special Shout out to the citizens of Tullahoma! When we rolled off the interstate, they were there at the exit ramp, and sprinkled in pockets along the way during the 10 miles or so between the interstate and the city. Holding flags, signs, yellow ribbons, etc. Then when we rolled into town, we could see the large crowd. I pulled up next to Dreamcatcher, she said, here go, and I said, "IT'S SHOW TIME!"

We hit the horns, cracked the pipes and the GREAT folks of Tulllahoma that had turned out, knew the troops would soon be home. It's difficult to describe all of the emotions that go though your head, when you see such a massive display of partiotism. I know for certain, that Tullahoma TN supports their troops!!!

Watch for phase 2 of this mission. It will be on Tuesday. Details to be posted shortly.

Altough I cound not get down there, my brother said it was an awesome homecoming. He described it the best he could, but I sure wish I could have made it. I am not really sure if he realizes that he provided the PGR with the information to make the homecoming a reality.

Thanks for braving the 35mph winds for these heros.

West TN riders- This is your time to shine. Central TN had a huge happy mission for part one. Part two goes down tomorrow!!! We ned to be there, we need to do this. I have done funeral after funeral for ever. I have never been to a happy mission. I'm going to be there for this!!

I have 2 phone numbers of guys who don't have computers, one in Paris, one in Lexington. I'm calling them, letting them know to meet me at 10 am tomorrow (Tuesday) at the pilot at exit 172.
\
If you can't run to Dickson and back- I am working on an alternate location for you to join up the caravan. I do not want any one sitting on a highway break down lane- and have reccomended the rest stop just west of jackson on I-40 westbound.

As soon as I hear from Randy Hall our "long Haul pig rider" I will firm it up with you here in west TN. Scott Z should be able to gather up folks out of memphis, perhaps the crew west of Brownsville should meet at the armory in B ville?

tj- reccommend you arrive Brownsville (appx 45 min to 1 hr east of Memphis) instead of rolling past Bville than back west in escort. Up to you, but really better to maybe meet at armory or even the exit ramp for the highway to brownsville. Stay close to this string, I work tonight 4pm to 1030pm . Please check tonight at around 12 am for any updates I have, or feel free to call me (731) 313-1678 after I get to work at 4pm.

I'll have the phone with me tomorrow as well.

Welcome home to all the folks we'll see on this run tomorrow. I look forward to seeing you.

Randy- are we having TN HP assist? Brownsville PD assisit? Trying to secure green lights from work for the highway tomorrow. Will take escort tail no matter what- wife plans on coming along on this. Big Red ready to roll on four.

Working on the THP and other LEO support. Seems they can't just make a Tennessee Highway Patrol Officer appear out of thin air. Who knew??? That never seems to be a problem when I'm in a hurry. LOL

I have high confidence, we will be able to get the escort support we need.
