Lt.. Michael P. Murphy / Operation Red Wing Dedication / Wednesday, May 7th / Patchogue, NY
(Two-part mission)
Part 1
We are invited to the Lt. Michael P. Murphy (Patchogue) Post Office where the Navy will present Mike’s Medal of Honor to the post office and unveil a Purple Heart monument outside that will be dedicated to Mike and his SEAL team along with a bust of Mike, his citation and an oil portrait of Mike done by a NYC artist for the Post Office walls. This ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM at 170 East Main Street in Patchogue.
The Hicksville staging area (Waldbaums shopping center-North Broadway/Route 106/107 - just south of the NSP exit 35S or the LIE exit 41S) has a KSU time of 09:45 AM.
The Final staging area / Suffolk stage area (The old Home Depot parking lot/ North-east corner of route 112 and the Sunrise Hwy. –Sunrise Hwy exit 53 ) has a KSU time of 10:30 AM. This is the Google map link
Part 2
Later that same day there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on a serenity plaza out at the Lake Ronkonkoma Beach Park which bears Mike’s name (Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Park) which will honor the heroes of Operation Red Wing with a black granite wall with their names inscribed and a 4’ circular stone with Mike’s picture and details. Mike’s SEAL team and a group from Washington will be in attendance. They expect the Navy Secretary, Dr. Winter to be in attendance and he will be making a major announcement about Mike. This is a great opportunity to honor our heroes and to show Washington, The Navy and Mike’s parents how very much we appreciate everything that our US Military does for us. This ceremony will begin at 2:30 PM.
The staging area for “part two” will be the Ronkonkoma train station parking lot. (LIE Exit 60 South on Ronkonkoma Ave.) This is the Google map link
The KSU time is 2:00 PM.

| Mission Complete : What a great day. With the weather being clear and in the high 70s and the Navy Secretary, Dr. Winter telling Michaels family and the world that the name of the newest Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer will be Michael Murphy. http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=11902 . |
