Billy Palmer, 84, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was a volunteer in the military and a veteran of World War II. He was assigned to the Signal Corps attached to the 5th Air Force and was later assigned to the 35th Fighter Control Squadron, fighting in the South Philippines, Luzon, New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. His unit was the first ground forces to arrive after the Hiroshima bombing. He served as commander of Fulton's VFW for five years and received many awards for membership and for helping fellow veterans and their families. He was awarded All American Post Commander in 1986 and 1987 for outstanding service and 100 percent membership. He dearly loved his family and his many friends, including his veteran buddies. <script></script>
