Don't think of him as gone away...
his journey's just begun;
life holds so many facets...
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know, today,
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost...
and he was loved so much.

My most heartfelt sympathy and condolences to this and all other MIA families that have finally had their loved ones return. Those of us that came home safe, owe a debt of gratitude to those that did not. May the Lord, our God hold you in the Hollow of his hand as we will hold you all in our hearts. Welcome home, well done sir, well done.

"Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who biddest the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea."

--The Navy Hymn, played at funerals to honor Presidents
(Navy LT John F. Kennedy, Asst. SECNAV Franklin Roosevelt and recently LCDR Gerald R. Ford)--now respectfully offered to honor this shipmate of ours.

Hopefully it's a comfort to family and friends to see how many "unknown" "strangers" fall in to render honors.  Soon after 9/11 we Americans got another example of the huge number of our unknown shipmates--when the German ship Lutjens drew alongside our USS Winston Churchill (DDG-81), respectfully flew our flag at half mast and exhibited a sign, "We support you."

"Like ships passing..." you family and friends of this incomparable veteran don't know most, or all, of us--but we're here with you.

"Fair winds and following seas," shipmate.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of LTJG Donald F. Wolfe ,Thanks for being our hero. God Bless. And God Bless, The fellow soldiers that stands for us everyday.Thank you for your dedicated service and sacrifice to defend this great nation of ours.

We salute you , My Friend

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."

"Thank you" to all of you. And to your families:

"I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.
I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom. Yours, very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln" (from a letter written to the mother of a fallen soldier in 1864)

Welcome home hero. Thank you for your service and ultimate sacrifice, you will never be forgotten.

We must never forget who gets the credit for the Freedoms we have, of which we should be eternally
grateful.

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.
I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives .
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.
