I recieved a personal request from Elizabeth Lang, Bath Maine. for the Patriot Guard to stand for her Father in Respect of his service during WW2. Internment will be in Jewett NY., outside Hunter NY on May17th 10am. We will if at all possible provide a Short escort and Flagline for graveside services.
Quote from Liz
Dad and Mom are in companion urn and will be buried on the 17th of May in the Maplewood Cemetery in Jewett NY. My Mom had her full services in 04' when she passed. So this is more Dad's funeral, but they will be buried together in the Mountains where they met, fell in love, Married and started a family. Now, full circle they return to the Mountains of New York. To be buried next to his Mother and Father and Sister's. We would be Grateful if the Patriot Guard could help us Honor and Respect Dad's military service.
I plan to do just that, and with your help we will. The information I have so far is as follows:
Confirmed Mission for WW2 Veteran Lt. Charles Edwin Hoyt / US Army 1941-1945
Date: May 17th Time: 9am
Staging area: Hunter Elementary School Rte 23A (Main St.) Hunter NY 12442
Escort leaving aprox.....9:30-9:45am to
Maplewood Cemetery Rte 23A Jewett NY 12444

Charles Edwin Hoyt First Lieutenant
Bath, Maine-Charles E. Hoyt, 89, of Washington Street and formerly of Windsor, Connecticut, and Bradenton, Florida, died Friday, March 07, 2008, at his home. He was a kind and generous man whose spirit lives on as he travels the heavens with his stars.
He was born at home in “the notch” in Hunter, Greene County, New York, on May 18, 1918, a son of Hiram Hartford Hoyt and Lena Evelyn Becker.
As a young man he tended to the family cows and pigs with his two brothers while his three sisters tended the chickens. He graduated from Hunter-Tannersville Central High School, class of 1937.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, and then earned his commission as a first lieutenant in the Army Quartermaster Corps.
Honorably discharged in 1945 he returned to the mountains of New York to raise a family. He ran the Traveler’s Rest Gas Station and Luncheonette.
He married Josephine Elizabeth O’Day on June 26, 1943, at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Bronx, New York.
As his family and the need for income grew he moved the family to Connecticut where he worked for Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks. In the late 1960’s he worked on their space program that designed and built the life support backpacks worn by the astronauts during moon walks. He retired in 1982 after 30 years of service.
He moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1988, and then to Bath, Maine in 2000 to live with his daughter and son in law.
He was a lifetime member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, a lifelong active member of the Democrat Party, and a registered member of the National Geographic Geographic Project DNA Study. He is predeceased by his wife who died January 11, 2004, and two brothers, George Hiram Hoyt and Woodrow Wilson Hoyt, both of Hunter, New York.
He is survived by six sons, Eugene Charles Hoyt of Rainbow, Connecticut, Brennock James Hoyt and his wife Jan of Seattle, Washington, Robert Dennis Hoyt and his wife Hope of Hickory, North Carolina, Jeoffrey Lynn Hoyt and his wife Barbara of Windsor, Connecticut, Greggory Carter Hoyt of Windsor, Connecticut, and Bradley Michael Hoyt and his wife Eileen of Ellington, Connecticut; a daughter, Elizabeth “Liz Anne” Lang and her husband J. Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Charles Edwin Hoyt, Army, WWII Veteran. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow. He is
one of America's Heroes that will never be forgotten.
Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Charles.
Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.
Morning
Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

Final Inspection
The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining. Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now,soldier. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep.... Though I worked a lot of overtime. When the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord. It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don’t, I’ll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now,soldier you’ve borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets; you’ve done your time in Hell."
