This is a Confirmed ANC Mission Plan
============================

LCDR (RET) Joseph Priestly, USN, of Martinsburg, WV, was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam, who, among other things, piloted an LST during the landing at Inchon and commanded helicopters over the Mekong delta.  He is to be laid to his final Hero's rest on the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) on 30 September, 2008 at approximately 1245 hours with services at the Old Chapel on Ft Myer followed immediately by graveside services at ANC.

PGR West Virginia is escorting the Hero from Martinsburg, WV to ANC (see above referenced thread for that plan), and will join with the ANC contingent at ANC and proceed to the Old Chapel for the services there. At the Old chapel, we will mount an Honor Flag Line for the services, then follow the procession to graveside, where we will render Honors for  services there.

The PGR mission plan for ANC includes meeting the incoming procession and Hero at the head of Memorial Drive, where the two units will combine, wait, and proceed to Ft Myer under direction of the ANC staff.

ANC Mission Plan:
---------------------------

Stage:     1030 hrs    Iwo Jima Memorial (Marine Corps War Memorial)
Brief:       1040 hrs
Transit:    1050 hrs    to ANC head of Memorial Drive

Pause:    1100 hrs    Await in-bound escort/procession from WV
Escort:    1145 hrs    to Old Chapel via "white line" road (approx time)
Honors:   1200 hrs    Flag Line at Old Chapel
Honors:   1315 hrs    Graveside ANC (time approx.)

Ride Captain:  Sid Marcus  (301) 843-8546 home (301) 535-6817  cell

Iron Horses preferred, cages welcome as always.
Mounted large flags preferred for transit (furl upon ANC parking).
Large hand-held flags desired for Honor Flag Line.
Military mandated ID / gear ARE required for this mission.

(Photo ID, long pants, long sleeves, full finger gloves, face shield or goggles or windshield).

Remember we are here to honor the Hero and  family, friends, and comrades-in-arms, and to stand tall, silent and proud.  If you cannot join us, please set aside a moment of silence at the appointed hour, to reflect on their sacrifice.

Oh!  I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."
